Sing with us - become a member

If you enjoy singing and want to be part of a friendly group of like-minded people, why not try us out? We really aren’t scary, and we’d love to make you feel welcome.

Previous experience and the ability to sight read are desirable but not essential. If you aren't sure which part (soprano, alto etc) you should be singing, don't worry, we'll help you find out!

First steps

A good way to start is to meet us, and to try singing along with us, with no commitment. There are two ways to do this:
1.    You are very welcome to just come along to a rehearsal or two, see here for times and location, or ...
2.    We sometimes run choral workshops for a few hours at a weekend, where everyone learns some popular pieces from scratch.  These are an excellent way to find out whether you enjoy part-singing as a member of a choir. See here.

Taking things further

When you have decided that you would like to join, please contact our membership secretary, either in person, or as follows: Marion: 07875 788 065, . She will introduce you to your section representative (eg Tenors), who will then help you to settle in.

Our librarian can loan you copies of the music for a small fee.

Membership fees are currently £15 a month.

Vocal Introduction

After a few rehearsals, everybody joining the choir is asked to meet with the Musical Director for a few minutes at the end of a rehearsal to do a few basic musical exercises, known as a vocal introduction. This very informal session is  designed to ensure that youa re indeed in the right section, and to help you to get the most from the choir. The only people present apart from yourself will be the Musical Director and his assistant unless you would like a friend or your section rep to attend with you. For more details see here.

Further information

You may find this pack below helpful in understanding how the choir is organised, and how you would fit in as a new member.

If you have any questions, do just ask your section rep, or any committee member, and if you don’t know who they are, just keep asking until you find someone who does!
